Download problem.

Postby coz » Tue Apr 17, 2012 6:56 am

Hi
I can't download any user packages from the extras menu?
When I click on the download button my game shuts down and crashers to desktop!

My specs:
OS - XP home sp3
ATI Radeon HD 4800 series
Intel core duo

Also when i download a packet from the site, where do i put the file?
I've tried putting the file in the colnes level/packages folders, but with no joy!

When you download a Clones Level Package, you should be able to double click on the file and it will bring up a small utility program to install the package for you. If this doesn't happen, then it's possible that Clones didn't install properly in the first place. You can try re-installing Clones, or you can try running the package installer program directly. Look in your Clones installation directory and run the following program:

<Clones Install Dir>/Bin/ClonesPackageInstaller.exe

Browse and select your downloaded package, then click install.

Thank for the fast reply.
The package installer program worked a treat, thanks.

I tried a re-installing. No good.
The small utility program you mentioned, I all ways got a application not found error!

I have the steam version, so the clones bin folder is in steam apps folder, colud this be the problem because a clones folder was also made in my docs on installtion too, with out the bin folder?

For steam, the Clones bin folder should be in the Steam apps folder, and the Clones folder created in your Docs is only for your saved games, and custom levels and avatars. So this is normal. I understand that you were able to successfully install the package with the installer tool, but you still want to avoid the workaround.

My guess is that maybe you are missing some registry keys. Can you check to see if you have the following keys in your registry:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.cpak]
@="Clones.cpak"
"Content Type"="application/clonespackage"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Clones.cpak]
@="Clones Package"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Clones.cpak\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Clones.cpak\shell\open]
@="Install"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Clones.cpak\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Clones\\Bin\\ClonesPackageInstaller.exe\" \"%1\""

Obviously the value of the last key will be different from the Steam version.

Thanks again :)

The value data for one of the registry keys was wrong, which I modified and now is working fine. :D

Thank for the help tom.

I've investigated and found that Clones might crash if you click the Download button before the package preview images have loaded.

After you click the "More Levels" button from the Extra Menu try waiting a while until the package image changes, then click on Download. This should work around the crash until we patch it up.

This should be fixed in the current Steam version.
